About the Tour

Tuscany is one of those places that photographers dream about - and it lives up to every expectation. Rolling hills at dawn, solitary cypress trees rising from the morning mist, medieval towers, vineyards stretching to the horizon. It’s all real, and it looks exactly the way you imagined. I’ve been to Tuscany many times and know it like my own backyard. Which means our itinerary goes beyond the iconic - we’ll visit locations that rarely appear on any map, places that tourists and photographers almost never reach. We’ll be based at a beautiful rural villa in the heart of Val d’Orcia, just minutes from Podere Belvedere and Cappella Vitaleta, moving around in a comfortable brand-new Toyota minivan. Add daily wine tastings and exceptional Italian cuisine, and you have a week that’s hard to improve on.

Itinerary

Day 1 Day 1

Arrival at Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci Airport at 1–2 pm, then straight to our villa. The evening begins with a sunset shoot close to the villa, followed by a welcome dinner. A gentle start - but the photography begins immediately.

Day 2 Day 2

We meet the sunrise at Poggio Covili, famous for its breathtaking cypress-lined path - one of the most iconic landscapes in all of Tuscany. After breakfast at the villa, we head to Pienza, one of the most charming towns in the region. We’ll walk its ancient stone streets, stop for coffee at Piazza Pio II, visit Pienza Cathedral, take in the panoramic views of Val d’Orcia, and sit down to a proper Bistecca Fiorentina. At sunset, we photograph one of the true symbols of the valley - the famous Cappella Vitaleta. Dinner at the villa to follow.

Day 3 Day 3

Sunrise at the famous Gladiator Villa - where Ridley Scott filmed key scenes of Gladiator with Russell Crowe. After breakfast at the villa, we drive to the ancient tuff towns, dramatic and unlike anything most photographers have worked with before. Sunset from a panoramic viewpoint in town, followed by an evening walk through the winding streets as the light fades.n.

Day 4 Day 4

A short drive brings us to our morning location - one of the most photographed villas in Tuscany. After the shoot and breakfast, we head to Montepulciano, one of the great winemaking centers of the region, for a tasting and a genuinely interesting story about Italian wine culture. If the weather cooperates, the evening will deliver one of the most beautiful sunsets in Tuscany near an iconic villa.

Day 5 Day 5

Morning light over the Crete Senesi hills - if mist settles into the valleys, this will be one of those Tuscan mornings you’ll talk about for years. We photograph sunset at Corsignano.

Day 6 Day 6

Sunrise near the villa. After a quick breakfast, we drive to Montalcino - another of Tuscany’s celebrated wine towns. Then on to San Gimignano, one of the most famous towns in the region. At its peak in the Medieval period, it has changed little since - surrounded by ancient walls, dominated by 14 stone towers that earned it the nickname of the “medieval Manhattan.” The historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. It also happens to produce what many consider the finest gelato in the world. Sunset at San Quirico d’Orcia.

Day 7 Day 7

A final sunrise near the villa, then breakfast and the drive to Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci Airport. Tuscany has a way of making departure feel premature - but there’s always a reason to come back.

Oleg Rest

Oleg Rest

My name is Oleg Rest, I am a professional landscape photographer and traveler. I was born in Kazakhstan, the land of steps and severe climate. Since early childhood I was dreaming of traveling. I first took camera in my hands at 6, when my parents rented a Zenit film camera during our holidays on the Black Sea coast. I enthusiastically took pictures of my parents, later with my father we developed films in our bathroom and dried them on a rope. Now I shoot with a modern camera Canon R5, but nature and photography still inspire me the most. I have been to such amazing places as Patagonia, Norway, Iceland, Tuscany, Namibia, Slovenia, China, Moravia, the Alps and the Lofotens, Myanmar, Czech Switzerland and I wish to share my impressions and delight with you! Life is full of beauty. This is my motto. I am not a fan of sophisticated and time-consuming processing of photos. The best shot for me is the one that needs minimal processing. My main principles in photography are: Interesting composition Beautiful light Minimum of processing Nowadays it is hard to find a location where no photographer has ever been, that is why even in popular places I try to find an unusual foreground which makes any shot look in a new light. I have won several landscape photography competitions. My photos are published by Canon Czech Republic, Canon Ukraine. I am an ambassador of Lucroit filter manufacturer (Spain), H&Y (Hong Kong), software company Skylum (Luminar, Aurora HDR software) and backpack manufacturer f-stop (USA).

What Participants Say

"I was fortunate to go on a photo tour with Oleg and Maria. They are wonderful people and masters of their craft. I had never done photography before, so I was worried that I knew nothing, but Oleg and Maria explained everything well and showed me how to work with the camera. Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done in this area, but it is a good start. Additionally, Maria shared historical facts about the places we visited. I highly recommend this tour."

"I signed up for the Tuscany Workshop in May 2019 with Oleg Rest having only seen his pictures and workshop itinerary online. It turned out to be an awesome decision as this was the best photography experience I could have imagined. Oleg picked me up upon my arrival at the Rome airport and we drove to the beautiful countryside of Tuscany. The villa we would call home for the week sits on a large hill overlooking rolling hills with a 360 degree view. That view alone may have been worth the entire trip. We spent the entire week immersed in photography, waking up before dawn each morning to shoot sunrise. Each morning we went to an epic location. Oleg and Maria (also a world class photographer) would offer any advice/help that was needed to capture that morning’s shoot. Each afternoon was spent exploring an ancient city and shooting street scenes. Evening was dedicated to sunset, and again each location was better than the next. Breakfast and dinner was at the Villa, and lunch was at a different city each day. Oleg and Maria also provided me with a separate session on Lightroom and Photoshop, which served to help with invaluable tips for editing. It was a truly magical experience, one I would recommend wholeheartedly to any photo enthusiast."

"My first trip to Italy was with Oleg and Maria. This photo tour exceeded my expectations in so many ways. I had reservations at first since I discovered this tour online. Rest assured, he is legit and the real deal .Accommodations were great at the Villa, clean and comfortable with a fantastic view of the Tuscan countryside. A small workshop size was perfect and the camaraderie among us was lovely. The ease of being transported to beautiful Tuscan sunrises and sunsets was wonderful. No searching for a great vantage point, Oleg showed you where. Technical advice was offered and shared if needed. Afternoons were spent in a different Tuscan town every day much to my surprise. I saw so much more of the area than I expected. Maria shared some history of the town and always had a great restaurant to eat lunch at. Time to explore the town was provided before the next planned Sunset spot. Another incredible site was planned out for you. The easy going nature and knowledge from both Oleg and Maria made for an unforgettable trip to Tuscany. The gratitude I feel for them both is immense. My advice? Take the trip. You can thank me later."

"We love so much our tour to Toscany 2024! This is our second tour together with Oleg and Masha (first tour was to Normandy 2023) and we love both tours! We love that Masha and Oleg are so sweet people and they are very organized. So our time being properly structured: we had a plenty of time for photo shootings at the most beautiful locations, eating at different restaurants, walking through amazing historical towns. We even have visited a three art museums with unique collections of medieval art. Our villa was surrounded by picturesque view 360’. Rooms are large and it’s almost apartments with a kitchen. On a villa so quiet and we been sleeping like an opossums! That was a great tour! Love it so much! Thank you!"
