About the Tour

The Dolomites are one of those landscapes that photographers describe as almost unfair. Sheer limestone towers rising from green meadows, emerald lakes reflecting jagged peaks, mountain passes that open onto views you need a wide-angle lens just to begin to capture. It’s no coincidence that the entire range is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - there is simply nothing else like it on earth. This tour covers the best of the eastern and western Dolomites in seven days - iconic locations and a few that aren’t on any public list. We travel by comfortable minivan, start early, and make the most of every hour of good light. Great Italian food guaranteed!

Itinerary

Day 1 Day 1

We meet at Munich Airport at 11 am and head straight toward the mountains. After check-in and introductions at the hotel, we head out for our first shoot at Lago di Misurina - a beautiful natural lake whose still surface reflects the surrounding peaks like a mirror. A strong first evening.

Day 2 Day 2

Before dawn we begin the hike to Lago di Federa - a mountain lake at 2,046 meters, ringed by golden larch trees in autumn and sitting beneath the dramatic spire of Becco di Mezzodì. This is one of the most celebrated sunrise locations in the entire Alps, and the hike to get there - through forest and open alpine meadow - is part of the experience. In the afternoon, we photograph at Lago Antorno. Sunset at Tre Cime di Lavaredo - the three iconic rock towers that have become the symbol of the Dolomites and one of the most photographed mountain formations in the world.

Day 3 Day 3

Sunrise at a location I keep off the public itinerary - a surreal spot with rock formations that most photographers never find. In the evening, Passo Giau: a high mountain pass connecting Cortina d’Ampezzo with Selva di Cadore, known for its sweeping panoramas, dramatic skies, and the small ponds that make perfect reflective foregrounds at golden hour.

Day 4 Day 4

Sunrise at Lago di Braies - perhaps the most famous lake in the Dolomites, and for good reason. The deep turquoise water against the sheer cliff face of Croda del Becco is a composition that never gets old, and early morning, before the crowds arrive, it belongs entirely to us. Sunset at Cinque Torri - five distinctive rock towers rising from the plateau, with sweeping views across the surrounding peaks in every direction.

Day 5 Day 5

An early start, a bus ride, and a 10-minute walk bring us to a spectacular mountain range for our morning shoot. After breakfast we change hotels and relocate to the western Dolomites, arriving in time for sunset at Lago di Carezza - one of the most vividly colored lakes in the Alps, its emerald-green water reflecting the Latemar massif in the kind of light that makes the image look processed even when it isn’t.

Day 6 Day 6

Early start, a bus ride, and a 45-minute walk bring us to Alpe di Siusi - the largest high-altitude alpine meadow in Europe, covering 56 square kilometers at elevations between 1,680 and 2,350 meters. Framed by the jagged peaks of Sassolungo and Sassopiatto, with traditional wooden mountain huts scattered across the landscape, this plateau has an almost otherworldly quality in autumn, when morning fog drifts across the grass and the light turns everything gold. Sunset near one of the most photographed churches in the area.

Day 7 Day 7

We photograph Santa Maddalena in Val di Funes from a carefully chosen vantage point - the classic view of the village with the Odle Mountains (Geisler Group) rising dramatically behind it, one of the most beloved compositions in the Dolomites. Then it’s time to head home. After breakfast we leave for Munich Airport, arriving at approximately 3 pm.

Oleg Rest

Oleg Rest

My name is Oleg Rest, I am a professional landscape photographer and traveler. I was born in Kazakhstan, the land of steps and severe climate. Since early childhood I was dreaming of traveling. I first took camera in my hands at 6, when my parents rented a Zenit film camera during our holidays on the Black Sea coast. I enthusiastically took pictures of my parents, later with my father we developed films in our bathroom and dried them on a rope. Now I shoot with a modern camera Canon R5, but nature and photography still inspire me the most. I have been to such amazing places as Patagonia, Norway, Iceland, Tuscany, Namibia, Slovenia, China, Moravia, the Alps and the Lofotens, Myanmar, Czech Switzerland and I wish to share my impressions and delight with you! Life is full of beauty. This is my motto. I am not a fan of sophisticated and time-consuming processing of photos. The best shot for me is the one that needs minimal processing. My main principles in photography are: Interesting composition Beautiful light Minimum of processing Nowadays it is hard to find a location where no photographer has ever been, that is why even in popular places I try to find an unusual foreground which makes any shot look in a new light. I have won several landscape photography competitions. My photos are published by Canon Czech Republic, Canon Ukraine. I am an ambassador of Lucroit filter manufacturer (Spain), H&Y (Hong Kong), software company Skylum (Luminar, Aurora HDR software) and backpack manufacturer f-stop (USA).
