About the Tour

This is not another Dolomites photography tour. There are plenty of those. This one is different - built around locations that most photographers, even experienced ones, simply never reach. Every day involves a hike: from 90 minutes to four hours, at altitude, in some of the most extraordinary mountain terrain in Europe. If you’re willing to put in the effort, the images waiting at the end of each trail are unlike anything you’ll find in any other tour itinerary. Seven days. Sunrise and sunset in places most people only see from the road - if they see them at all. This tour is for photographers who hike. If that’s you, read on.

Itinerary

Day 1 Day 1

We meet at Munich Airport at 11 am and drive toward the mountains. After check-in and introductions at the hotel, we head out at sunset to Lago Limides - a beautiful natural lake whose still surface mirrors the surrounding peaks. A quiet, strong opening to the week.

Day 2 Day 2

We begin the day with a hike to Lago di Federa - a mountain lake of extraordinary beauty, surrounded in summer by wildflowers that make for compelling foreground elements. The views here work at ground level and from the air equally well — drone users will find this location particularly rewarding. In the afternoon, we set out again toward Lago di Sorapis - one of the most intensely turquoise lakes in the entire Alps, its color the result of fine glacial sediment suspended in the water. We spend the night at the rifugio on the lake. If the sky is clear, the night offers a serious opportunity for Milky Way photography in one of the most atmospheric settings imaginable.

Day 3 Day 3

Morning shoot at Lago di Sorapis, breakfast with a view that most people will never see in their lives. Then we make our way back down. Evening photography session at Cinque Torri - five distinctive rock towers rising from the plateau, dramatic at any time of day and exceptional in the last light of the evening. We spend the night at the rifugio.

Day 4 Day 4

Morning at Cinque Torri - in summer the surrounding meadows are carpeted in wildflowers, adding color and depth to compositions that are already exceptional. Then we relocate to another part of the Dolomites for the most demanding - and most rewarding - hike of the entire tour. Rifugio Re Alberto 1°, perched at 2,621 meters in the heart of the Catinaccio group, surrounded by the towering walls of the Rosengarten and the famous Vajolet Towers rising directly overhead. The evening and night shoot here will stay with you for years. This is the undisputed highlight of the tour - the place people talk about long after everything else has faded.

Day 5 Day 5

Sunrise at Rifugio Re Alberto - the Vajolet Towers at first light is the kind of image that defines a trip. Then we make our way back down. After lunch, we take the cable car up to Seceda at 2,500 meters - a vast ridgeline above Val Gardena with views across the western Dolomites that are difficult to put into words. We spend the night at the rifugio.

Day 6 Day 6

Morning shoot at Seceda, then we descend and relocate. In the afternoon, a hike to Geisler Alm - a high alpine pasture below the dramatic Odle peaks (Geisler Group), with a famous mountain pond whose reflections of the towers above have become one of the iconic images of the Dolomites. We spend the night at a hotel.

Day 7 Day 7

One final morning at a location I keep off the public itinerary - mountains, epic views, and the kind of light that makes a proper send-off. Then breakfast and the drive to Munich Airport, arriving at approximately 3 pm.

Oleg Rest

Oleg Rest

My name is Oleg Rest, I am a professional landscape photographer and traveler. I was born in Kazakhstan, the land of steps and severe climate. Since early childhood I was dreaming of traveling. I first took camera in my hands at 6, when my parents rented a Zenit film camera during our holidays on the Black Sea coast. I enthusiastically took pictures of my parents, later with my father we developed films in our bathroom and dried them on a rope. Now I shoot with a modern camera Canon R5, but nature and photography still inspire me the most. I have been to such amazing places as Patagonia, Norway, Iceland, Tuscany, Namibia, Slovenia, China, Moravia, the Alps and the Lofotens, Myanmar, Czech Switzerland and I wish to share my impressions and delight with you! Life is full of beauty. This is my motto. I am not a fan of sophisticated and time-consuming processing of photos. The best shot for me is the one that needs minimal processing. My main principles in photography are: Interesting composition Beautiful light Minimum of processing Nowadays it is hard to find a location where no photographer has ever been, that is why even in popular places I try to find an unusual foreground which makes any shot look in a new light. I have won several landscape photography competitions. My photos are published by Canon Czech Republic, Canon Ukraine. I am an ambassador of Lucroit filter manufacturer (Spain), H&Y (Hong Kong), software company Skylum (Luminar, Aurora HDR software) and backpack manufacturer f-stop (USA).
